Main research areas:
- Polish medical culture, Polish school of philosophy of medicine.
- Effective communication between health care workers and patients and care of chronically ill patients.
- Perception and communication of risks associated with medical therapy.
- Medicine during the Holocaust.
- Medical ethics, scientific research ethics, cultural bioethics.
In addition to the research directions being pursued, ZHNL staff members conduct extensive teaching activities - including for ED and Erasmus students - in which students learn the basics of Medical Psychology with elements of patient communication, Sociology in Medicine, Medical Ethics and History of Medicine.
Kamila Uzarczyk,PhD a member of the 2021 appointed ‘The Lancet Commission on Medicine and the Holocaust: Historical Evidence, Implications for Today, Teaching for Tomorrow’.
The result of the Commission's work is the publication of a report (The Lancet, vol. 402, no. 10415, Nov 18-24, 2023, pp. 1805-1940) considering the state of research, implications in the context of the contemporary debate on medical ethics, and a proposal for a model for teaching medical students about these issues.
